Dietitians provide individual consults to assist people in managing their special dietary needs and help them meet their nutritional requirements. Our dietitians see a range of adults and children for many reasons including:

  • Allergies and intolerances
  • Arthritis and gout
  • Cancer
  • Coeliac disease
  • Diabetes (Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational)
  • Diverticulitis
  • Gastrointestinal disorders
  • General healthy eating advice
  • High cholesterol
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Osteoporosis
  • Pregnancy and antenatal
  • Reflux
  • Repertory conditions
  • Weight management for weight loss or weight gain

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department conducts group programs for chronic disease management, pregnancy health, weight management and other programs. In addition we are also involved in group talks and health promotion activities which advocate good nutrition practices within the community. These programs may involve supporting and educating people in accessing healthy food and /or increasing knowledge and skills for meal planning, preparation and cooking.

All Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) must meet the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) standards, code of ethics and are university qualified professionals who are committed to Evidence Based Practice.  

The following services are provided in Hamilton:

  • Inpatient care at Hamilton Base Hospital
  • Outpatient consultations at Hamilton House
  • Aged care services to residents at The Birches and The Grange Residential Care Service
  • Community and health promotion services

The department also provides a range of services including outpatients, inpatients, health promotion activities and group programs to:

  • Casterton Memorial Hospital
  • Harrow Bush Nursing Centre
  • Eventide Lutheran Homes
  • Edgarley Homes Inc. Casterton

Referral
We accept referrals via any means from health professionals.  Community members are also welcome to make an appointment with a dietitian without a referral.

Off campus outpatient appointments are available by contacting the individual facility to make an appointment
