At Western District Health Service, we want to provide a healthy, safe and clean environment for all patients, staff and visitors.
Smoking is not permitted within the buildings, or on the grounds, of all campuses of Western District Health Service.
Now, however, WDHS is proud to have partnered with Quit Victoria to provide a new model of care for clients who smoke.
This means that in addition to asking you about your smoking, we will be asking you if you are ready to be referred to services that can help you quit.
Research shows that the most effective way to quit smoking is a combination of coaching (such as Quitline) and nicotine replacement therapy products or quitting medication.
If you’re not ready yet, that’s okay.
In the meantime, your healthcare team will talk to you about how we can keep you more comfortable during your stay here at WDHS without having to leave the premises to smoke. We stock a range of NRT formulations and will work with you to determine which one will best meet your needs.
NRT support for maternity clients
Having a baby can be a significant motivation for a quit attempt. WDHS will support any of our maternity clients from the time they book in to have their baby till the day of discharge with a free course of nicotine replacement therapy. Talk to your GP, obstetrician or midwife for more information.
Referral
If you are ready, your healthcare professional can refer you directly to a specialist coaching service.
You can also self-refer at any time online or by calling Quitline on 13 7848.
