Western District Health Service (WDHS) is a sub-regional referral centre primarily for the Southern Grampians Shire and surrounding areas. We provide a comprehensive range of acute, aged and primary health services to a catchment population of around 37,000.
WDHS has a total of 91 acute beds, 175 aged care and 35 independent living units, community, allied health services and youth services.
In 2010/11 WDHS treated 7,695 inpatients and 54,822 outpatients, 6,693 accident and emergency patients, 235 babies were born in our Midwifery Unit and 3,014 operations were performed. We accommodated 178 high-care residents, 26 low-care residents, 151 respite residents and our occupancy rate in our aged care facilities was 98.25%. We serviced 39 CACPs clients.
WDHS is the largest employer in the region and employs over 700 people. Our campuses are located throughout the Western District of Victoria and include:
- Hamilton Campus – including the Hamilton Base Hospital, Grange Residential Services, Frances Hewett Community Centre, Youth4Youth, National Centre for Farmer Health, The Birches Residential Service
- Coleraine and District Health Service
- Penshurst and District Health Service
- Merino Community Health Centre
