Addressing workforce needs and advancing the health and wellbeing of regional, rural and remote areas is a priority for Deakin’s School of Medicine. The Rural Training Scheme aims to redress the shortfall of doctors in rural areas by recruiting students living in a rural area who are committed to undertaking their clinical training locally.
Deakin University is committed to rural Western Victoria and its associated training partners, and in recognition of this relationship will prioritise entry for applicants from this region.
Each year, 30 domestic places in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) are held for applicants applying through the Rural Training Stream. Students who accept a position in the Doctor of Medicine through the RTS make a commitment to undertake all four years of the MD course at a rural training site.
The Deakin University program is initially delivered through a blend of online and face-to-face learning in Warrnambool or Ararat, with final placement at one of Deakin’s rural clinical schools, priority will be given to entry for applicants from this region and enables training for all specialities including General Practice.
Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the information session on Wednesday 26 April at HIRL. To attend other regional information sessions see Doctor of Medicine Rural Training Stream information sessions | Deakin
