Works are continuing on the Hamilton Base Hospital (HBH) reception refurbishment project, with stage 2 beginning on Tuesday 1 September – please note that access arrangements will change accordingly including closure of the main Foster Street entrance.
Effective from 9.00am Tuesday 1st September), patients, visitors and staff accessing Admissions, Green Bean Café and hospital wards will now be able to use the internal hospital corridor going behind the courtyard. This means people are now longer required to use the external route around the back-of-house area.
What Is changing?
The main Foster Street entrance and reception area will close to allow refurbishment works to continue. This closure will be effective from mid morning on the 1st September.
Access arrangements
- Access to Admissions, Green Bean Café and hospital wards is via internal hospital corridors. This is the yellow line/signage.
- Directional signage will remain in place to help patients and visitors. Volunteers will be onsite to help direct them to their destinations within the hospital.
- Emergency department (ED) access remains the same.
- Due to exposed ceilings within the construction area and infection control requirements, anyone attending Cancer Services and Dialysis must continue to follow the green line directional pathway and enter/exit via the rear Cancer and Dialysis entrance. This is to minimise risk to immunocompromised patients and maintain a safe care environment.
Summary of key changes during stage 2
- The main Foster Street entrance will be closed.
- All patients, visitors and staff must enter via the Dorevitch Pathology entrance, located beside Hamilton Medical Group.
- Reception services will temporarily relocate to the People & Capabilities Reception area. People and Capabilities reception will relocate to the adjacent office.
- Access to hospital wards, Bendigo Radiology, consulting suites, Cancer Services & Dialysis will be maintained via internal hospital corridors (refer to attached stage 2 map).
- Visitors should follow the internal directional signage to their destination.
- A patient drop-off zone will be available at the front of the Foster Street Entrance and the taxi/bus rank in front of Hamilton Medical Group.
- ED access remains the same.
- The ATM will be unavailable for this period.
- The Library corridor and mailroom time clock machines will remain accessible.
- Encourage patients and visitors to follow the temporary wayfinding signage throughout the hospital.
- Familiarise yourself with the stage 2 access map and alternative routes.
Our dedicated volunteers will be on-site providing assistance. Please work with and support them where possible to help ensure everything runs smoothly.
Access after hours
The Dorevitch Pathology entrance, located beside Hamilton Medical Group, will be closed overnight between 8 pm and 6 am daily. Access to the hospital during these hours for patients and family will be facilitated through the After-Hours Coordinators only.
Duration of works
The reception refurbishment project is on track and will continue for another 10 weeks. Updates will be provided as works progress.
