Community Fundraising Delivers Vital Equipment for Cancer and Dialysis Centre

The power of community generosity has once again made a meaningful impact, with over $54,000 raised in just over four months to fund a new portable ultrasound machine for the Cancer and Dialysis Centre at Western District Health Service (WDHS).

Funds were raised through two major community events — the Cocktails for a Cause and the WDHS Op Shop Golf Tournament — alongside generous donations to the WDHS Christmas Appeal. The much‑needed equipment has now arrived and will significantly enhance patient care.

The portable ultrasound will assist clinical teams in providing safer, more comfortable, and more efficient treatment for patients receiving cancer care and dialysis, increasing comfort and improving outcomes.

A big thank you is extended to all sponsors and supporters of both fundraising events, with special acknowledgement to: WDHS Op Shop and their amazing volunteers who are the major sponsor of the Golf Tournament along with the Hamilton Golf Club, Australian Bluegum Plantations, Hamilton Flooring Xtra and Iluka. Plus, Omnis Lane, major sponsor of the Cocktails for a Cause.

The WDHS Christmas Appeal also received outstanding community backing, with more than 74 individuals and organisations contributing. Significant donations were received from Rockfest, Tarrington Senior Citizens, Hamilton Carols and Ken Moore, among many others.

Chief Executive Rowena Clift said the result reflects the strength of the local community:

“This extraordinary community effort shows what we can achieve when people come together with a shared purpose. The portable ultrasound will make a real difference for our Cancer and Dialysis patients, improving comfort and safety during treatment. On behalf of our staff and patients, thank you to every donor, sponsor, and volunteers who helped make this possible.”

This achievement highlights a wonderful example of community collaboration, with people, businesses, and organisations coming together to raise an exceptional amount in a relatively short time — all in support of better local healthcare.
